TileDB is a novel approach for managing massive structured data arising in a wide spectrum of applications, including genomics, financial time series, relational databases, point cloud data, and more. It introduces a new data format that revolves around dense and sparse multi-dimensional arrays, offering rapid data access and updates. TileDB integrates well with numerous programming language APIs and popular data science solutions, and works efficiently on a variety of storage backends, both in private clusters and on the cloud.

Big Pi has coinvested in TileDB along with Intel Capital and Nexus Venture Partners.

Stavros Papadopoulos

Prior to founding TileDB, Inc. Dr. Stavros Papadopoulos was a Senior Research Scientist at the Intel Parallel Computing Lab, and a member of the Intel Science and Technology Center for Big Data at MIT CSAIL for three years. He also spent about two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

Stavros received his PhD degree in Computer Science at HKUST under the supervision of Prof. Dimitris Papadias, and held a postdoc fellow position at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with Prof. Yufei Tao.

Jacob Bolewski

Jacob Bolewski

Jake Bolewski has a B.S. in Bioengineering from Cornell University. He worked in the field of single molecule and super resolution microscopy for 6 years at Cornell, the Jackson Laboratory, and at McMaster University.

A self taught programmer, he became interested in programming languages and PL theory after frustrations writing custom analysis and microscope control software. This interest led him to the Julia project where he worked as a research engineer at MIT after leaving grad school in chemical biology.

Prior to joining TileDB, Inc. Jake worked as a computer and instrumentation specialist on the US Antarctic research vessel, the Laurence M. Gould.
